Special Needs School Programs

The Rhythm Village has been delivering music workshops for Special Needs Schools and Support Units for over 15 years.

We use music as a medium to unlock the hidden potential and capabilities of students.

Generally run in group sessions, each student is given the opportunity to ‘shine’, to create sounds and music, to explore their own creativity and push their physical boundaries.

All of our music workshops offer students opportunities to develop skills and work towards achieving curriculum-based outcomes. Music is a fantastic way to address all Key Learning Areas(KLA’s).

Each term can have a specific theme, such as Music from Around the World, Sounds of the Seasons, Music of the Dreamtime. You are welcome to choose from over 20 exciting term themes.

Our workshops can focus on a particular instrument, such as drumming workshops, or we can provide general music workshops, with a variety of instruments – all sessions include lots of percussion participation.

We can also bring along gongs, didgeridoo or singing bowls to complete the workshops with a relaxation session at the end.

Most of our schools work is run on a weekly basis, where we come in for a full day with the aim of offering the joy of music to as many students as possible. We also offer one-off workshops, often to celebrate events such as Harmony Day, or NAIDOC week, etc.

Our music and movement workshops are all about interactivity and engagement and we promote working together as a group. We can also work towards an end-of-term or end-of-year performance.

Our workshops are suitable for primary and secondary aged children and our syllabus links directly with the Creative Arts (music) curriculum.  All our programs are designed to fit in with your school’s timetable and consider each student’s priorities and key learning objectives.

“I have been working with kids with Autism and a range of disabilities for almost 20 years and have never met an organisation who is so selfless and so committed to giving all kids opportunities to have fun and find happiness and peace in music.”
Katrina Vallak - McCallums Hill Public School
